My Artwork
I am an artist. Although I'm mostly untrained (aside from help from family and friends), I have learned quite a bit about drawing and painting. I do portraiture and landscapes, as well as a little cartooning. On this section of my website, you'll be able to view some of my work. If I base an item on someone else's original, I shall give credit to their original work. Click on the thumbs for a larger image. Click here to return to the main page.

Watercolor and Acrylic

"Christmas Woodstock" -- Acrylic
Anyone who knows me knows that I am a Peanuts addict. I am the first to admit it. I'm big enough. Yup. This was an acrylic painting that I did on the glass storm door on our house in Point Pleasant. Mom did one of Snoopy and Woodstock together. It was extremely cold when we did the paintings, but we had a lot of fun with it. I decided to save our paintings with the digital camera because once the Christmas season is over, they will be scraped off the glass. I have a feeling that I'll be doing lots of stuff like this when I have a house of my own one day! Something to look forward to.
"The Snowy Church" -- Watercolor
This is a favorite of most of the people who view my collection. When I am at Marshall, the original to this hangs proudly on my wall for everyone to see when they come through. This picture has great significance for me for several reasons. Firstly, I fell in love with the minimalistic style employed here because so few lines were involved in bringing the church to life. If you look at it closely, you can see that there really isn't a solid "line" persay in the structure itself. It is built through shadows.
"Italian Villa" -- Watercolor (Impressionist)
"Woodland Dreams" -- Watercolor and Ink (Koh-I-Noor Rapidographic)
"Intertwined" -- Watercolor and Ink (Koh-I-Noor Rapidographic)
"Father and Child" -- Pencil
Based on "A Promise to Return" -- colored pencil by Amy V. Lindenberger, CPSA
"Anime Girl" -- Pencil
Based on a character from Shonen Jump
"Trunks" -- Pencil
Based on the character "Trunks" from the Dragonball Z manga in Shonen Jump
"Tsar Nicholas II" -- Pencil
Based on the official portrait - circa early 1900's
"Farm Creek" -- Koh-I-Noor Rapidographic
I haven't had the heart yet to take a watercolor wash to this. Til then... it remains a pen work.
"Steven Segal" -- Pencil
This is one of my older ones, dating back to 1997. I think this was based on a picture from Mad Magazine. I may be wrong though.
"Tom Selleck" -- "Pencil"
I did this during the summer before my first year of college. I read a lot of Westerns that summer, i.e. Max Brand, Louis Lamour, etc. If I remember correctly, this is based on the cover of a Louis Lamour novel that I borrowed from my grandfather.
"Mickey Mouse" -- Ink (Pilot V-Ball)
This was a doodle that I did in class from a coloring book as part of a school contest. We were to decorate our classroom doors with "Have a Drug/Alcohol Free Prom" slogans. Michael Sowodniok (a dear friend of mine from Germany) and I blew this up with a projector and painted it six feet tall on bulletin board paper and taped it to the door. Since the teacher's name was Opal Morse, the slogan was, "Mickey Morse Says Have a Drug/Alcohol Free Prom!" Since none of the judges were familiar with my artwork, they thought that the class had traced it from a book and gave us last place. As irritated as I was, I took it as a testament to the quality of my work. Thanks for the ego boost, judges!
"Dittohead" -- Ink
Good grief! This is old... 1995. That would make me 14 here. *Starts counting on fingers* Yup... 14. This was one of my first attempts at caricature. Ahh... caricature, hard to spell, hard to do. This one of Rush Limbaugh is one of my favorites. As you can see, this was way before he lost all of that weight.
"Mustang" -- Pencil
The North American, Rockwell P-51 Mustang, WWII.
"Quinn Lavasseur: Young and Old" -- Colored Pencil
One of my earlier works (high school) based on a character from one of my novels.
"Marcus Lavoisier" -- Sepia Colored Pencil
A character from one of my novels.
"Professor Oak" -- Colored Pencil
I love Pokémon... I'll admit it. For those of you who aren't insane like I, Professor Oak is the Pokémon scientist who gives Ash Ketchum his first Pokémon, Pikachu.
"Kadabra" -- Colored Pencil
I might as well prove my nerdiness further... Yes, this is another Pokémon! I love cartooning, what can I say??
"American Robin" -- Colored Pencil and Ink (Koh-I-Noor Rapidographic)
"Christ the Pantocrator" -- Prismacolour Scholar
I have always found Iconography to be beautiful, and this was my first attempt to delve into the beauty of this form. The IX and XC represent the name Jesus Christ, and the Greek letters in the Halo represent the name "I Am That I Am," which was given to Moses at Mount Sinai. The style of Iconography is that of modern Russian Orthodoxy. I'm planning on mounting the original on wood and sealing it with decoupage to give it a matte finish. I'm afraid my scanner doesn't always do colored pencil justice. It seems to dull the rich color. This was truly a blessing to put together, though! Christ works in the most amazing ways, and I found an incredible peace as I was putting this on paper.
"Greek Icon" -- Prismacolour Scholar
This Icon was done in the same manner as the above image. The design itself is Greek Orthodox. Since it was 11x14, it was too large to put in my scanner. This is a photo of the finished product sitting on a little table with the Bible.
