The Marshall University S.C.O.R.E.S. academic competition gives high school students a chance to compete in scholastic contests for medals, stipends, and scholarships. Currently, the entire S.C.O.R.E.S. competition is being operated by way of E-mail and by hand. This includes the registration of students for events, the scheduling of events, the notification of event times and locations, the scoring of events, and the awarding of winners. By manually completing these processes, multiple problems can be encountered, including delays associated with emails, lost emails, difficulty making changes to students that are registered, and issues ensuring that all scoring is done correctly and winners are being selected properly.
The purpose of the S.C.O.R.E.S. Web Application is to automate every process of the S.C.O.R.E.S. competition. The web application will allow for three user types, administrators, high school counselors, and event supervisors. Administrators will have complete control of the system. Specifically, they will have the ability to add, edit, and delete events, set divisions for high schools, specify cutoff dates for registration, and also complete all tasks that high school counselors and event supervisors are able to complete. High school counselors will be able to register, edit, and delete students for events up to a specified cutoff date. Counselors will also be able to print lists of their students and the events and times they are registered for. Event supervisors will be able to enter scores from events directly into the web application and will be able to determine the winners for events overall, not based on time.
By providing these features, along with features that will ensure the integrity of the data and the contest, such as contest registration limits for contestants, the S.C.O.R.E.S. Web Application will make the processes involved in the S.C.O.R.E.S. academic competition easier to perform and maintain.
