Thats a Mazda 626 intercooler which is virtually the same as a probe cooler other then the outlets being sligtly different. Its not that great of an intercooler but thats what the junkyard had and it fits extremely well while leaving my a/c components alone. Also a bunch of srcap hoses I picked up for free to make my intercooler pipes with and two first gen talon BOVs.
Just to show what the front looks like with everything out of the way. I was rebuilding my trans at the sametime hence the trans is missing.
Just a mockup to show the basic plan. You might be able to figure out why the Mazda was in the junkyard by looking at the intercooler outlets.
I had to cut some of the metal out on the right of the radiator to make room for the intercooler outlets and I also had to cut the bumper support on that side to make room.
Here I have moved the radiator over about 2 inches just by drilling new holes for the top mounts. The intercooler is just being test fitted.
Here I have it all mounted and just waiting for hoses. I am really not sure what you call the part but I had to cut the plastic thing that the headlight is bolted to clear the intercooler. I also installed a new trans cooler aswell as the old one. I quickly discovered that having both in front of the radiator was blocking to much airflow and removed the stock one. Even after that is still ran a little warm on the interstate but it was almost winter and by this time I was tired of messing with it so I left it alone. I did finally two weeks ago move the new transcooler over to in front of the A/C condenser and everything seems fine sofar.
The lower intercooler hose. It is just made up of the junkyard intercooler hoses I picked up, a small peice of exhaust pipe, and the BOV.
The upper intercooler hose. I had to buy a plumber fitting to mate it to the intake. They aren't suppose to hold up very well but after a couple thousand miles of 14psi it is still working. In second pic you can see the old radiator mounting hole and how far I moved it over and were I had to cut the upper radiator hose to make it fit. The lower radiator hose fit fine. Everything fit very well. I didn't have to relocated the cruise control, the battery, or the overflow tank. For now I have the stock air box just jammed in there but at some point I will replace it with a cone filter. I am pretty happy with the power gains from this upgrade but I don't think I will see the real benefit till I can get some more fuel flow and more boost.
