While I had the engine out I thought it would be a good time to do something about the worthless stock water temp and oil pressure gauges and add an EGT ,exhaust gas temp, gauge to help monitor the turbo. I didn't want to have more gauges hanging off the dash or mounted somewhere hard to see so I headed to the junkyard and bought another cluster for $30 to cut up.
Pretty good shot of what the cluster looks like once you open it up. Pretty simple really. Just have to take out two bolts and the water and oil gauges pop right out.
And here they are out. I decided to try rolling back the odometer to 0 while I was at it. I know its illegal but its a worthless old caravan so nobody is going to care. I doubt this thing will ever be sold anyway and if it is it will be to another person into modified turbo caravans and they won't mind.
Looking pretty good sofar other then my odometer which ended up showing 999,890 miles but close enough. It will be fine once it rolls over.
Ran into a few complications on the back. These gauges take up a bit more space then the stock ones so I had to cut things up a little. Any of the traces I cut I just jumped with some wire.
Everything is back together and you can see where I installed the EGT gauge.
Back in the van and working. I can't get a good night picture but I used green bulb condoms, colored rubber slip covers that go over gauge lights to alter their color, to make the oil and water gauge match the rest. I ran out of green condoms and used a red one for the EGT guage. That kind of bugs me but its one of the more important gauges so its handy to have it stand out. If it really gets on my nerves it is easy to pop out and replace. The two guages mounted in pods on the dash are my boost gauge and air fuel gauge which I covered in another update. The green LED above the EGT gauge lights up when my 5th injector kicks on and the red one is for my check engine light. Thats real fake wood trim by the way.
