I am a Professor of Computer Science (teaching Information Systems) in the College of Information Technology and Engineering at Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia.

I am a product of the British education system: I received my BSc (Honours) degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Salford, in 1967, MSc in Computer Science from the University of Nottingham, in 1970, and PhD in Information Systems from the Durham University Business School, in 1982. Durham University ranked 61st in the QS World University Rankings 2015-16.

Before joining Marshall University, I worked for more than 12 years in Industry: in 1969 I joined the Swiss Chemical-Pharmaceutical firm J R Geigy in its Wissenschaftliche Rechenzentrum as Programmer-Analyst. After the Ciba-Geigy merger, I moved to the Pharma Division, which was responsible for conducting Clinical Trials in the course of developing new Medicines. My last position title was that of Project Manager. Later, I became the European Software Manager for Commodore, one of the earliest vendors of Personal Computers. Still later, I worked as a Systems Engineer for Prime Computers, in its day a reputable vendor of mid-size computers, with Headquarters at Natick, Massachusetts. In Switzerland I also established my own limited liability management consultancy firm von Jutt AG.

I have travelled extensively in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. In 1984 I joined Marshall University as Associate Professor and moved to the USA. In 1991 I was granted Tenure and Promoted to Full Professorship. In 1992 I won a Summer Fellowship for work at the White Sands Missile Testing site of the US Army in New Mexico. For the academic year 1993-94, I was on sabbatical - I spent one semester in Russia and the second semester in Pakistan. For the year 2008-09, I was awarded the Fullbright Fellowship for Pakistan.

Teaching is my passion and I have taught students at Marshall for more than 30 years.
