Daguerreotype of the Nauvoo Temple
A copy of the daguerreotype taken by Louis R. Chaffin probably in 1847. This photograph gives a very clean image of the Temple, providing a wealth of information on the Temple's external appearance. The LDS Church Archives cleaned and restored the original, which had been obscured over time, revealing the image of the Temple in great detail. Note the small pitched-roof building at the corner of the Temple; likely the Temple Recorder's office. The same building appears in the Missouri Historical Society daguerreotype. The original is in the collection of the Cedar City Chapter of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Cedar City, Utah. |
