Chris and Karen Williams from the BYU 5th Ward spend time cleaning a Provo stake center in preparation for the Nauvoo Temple dedication.
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints around the world are ironing their best outfits and ripping rags out of their old ones.
The Church of Jesus Christ has asked all church buildings in which the Nauvoo Temple dedication is broadcast to be thoroughly cleaned and washed prior to the June 27 dedicatory session.
An internal priesthood letter from President Boyd K. Packer, acting president of the Council of the Twelve, was sent to stake presidents around the world instructing them on the preparations to be carried out for each church building broadcasting the dedication.
Coke Newell, manager of media relations for the church, said the letter has not been released to the public.
"It (the letter) asked to make all stake centers an extension of the temple and as clean and inviting as they possibly could be," said Dan Judd, president of the Orem Canyon View Stake.
Tim Cox, the ward building scheduler for the BYU 141st Ward, is in charge of coordinating the volunteer cleaning efforts of his ward.
"When I walk into the temple, it seems so pristinely clean," Cox said. "So as we help clean the church, it will help the spirit to be there (at the dedication) more abundantly."
Members are being asked to clean all areas of the church buildings, including dusting and oiling all wood furniture and baseboards, vacuuming floors and washing the windows.
The dedication of the Nauvoo Temple will be available to all worthy members of the church who hold a current regular or baptismal temple recommend.
Those with a recommend need to obtain a separate temple dedication recommend from their bishopric to attend.
Members ages 8 to 15 may also attend if they have a dedication recommend and are accompanied by an adult.
The temple dedication will be on Thursday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at stake centers around the world.
Those attending are asked to be in their seats at least 30 minutes before the dedication begins.
