Four students successfully presented their capstone projects on Wednesday December 1. Five more students will be presenting their capstone projects on Wednesday, December 8 from 4:00 to 6:30 PM in SH429B. This will be a wonderful opportunity for Japanese major students to see examples of capstone projects.

On November 5, 2010 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at Marco's (in the basement of the student center) we will have a Japanese language table during which you can enjoy shuji (calligraphy) practice.

On October 2, 2010 Nacky-sensei offered a panel entitled "Japanese 101 for Anime Fans" during Tsubasacon. It was a big hit: lots of participants enjoyed learning common phrases in Japanese, as well as both the janken and fruits basket games.

The West Virginia International Schools Undoukai was held on October 9, 2010. Some people from the JPN401 and JPN480 joined the sports event, including pankui kyouso (bread snatch) and tsunahiki (tug-of-war) after warming up with the rajio taisou (radio warm-up exercises).

We also enjoyed Japanese food and drink at Sushi Atlantic in Charleston, WV after the event.

We have a few pictures from both Tsubasacon and the Undoukai. Click the images below to see the full-sized image.

This weekend is Tsubasacon! It's an anime/manga convention in Huntington, WV. It will be held at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena this weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (October 1, 2, and 3). Nacky-sensei will be teaching the panel "Japanese-101 for the Anime Fan" in the Sub-Main Events room, from 11:00 a.m. until noon. on Saturday. Hope to see everyone there!

Visit the Tsubasacon Offical Website for more information.

During summer, Ms. Jingping Zhang at Drinko Library and I worked together and applied for the grant, “100 Books for Understanding Contemporary Japan.” We are going to receive 73 new Japanese books to add to Drinko Library's collection from The Nippon Foundation. Exciting! As soon as they arrive, I will let all the students who study Japanese know about it.
